Charges laid in death of Dufferin OPP Officer


 Charges have been laid in connection with the death of a Dufferin OPP officer who was killed in the line of duty near Hearst.
On Tuesday, June 9, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the James Bay OPP were attempting to stop a vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation. During the attempted apprehension, an officer was struck by the vehicle. The officer, 29-year-old OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali of the Dufferin detachment, was seriously injured and was later pronounced deceased.
As a result of the investigation, Justin VERONNEAU, an 18-year-old male from Hearst, has been charged with
  • First degree murder
    The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Flags at all Town of Caledon and Town of Orangeville facilities have been lowered to half-mast in honour of Constable Bali.
