Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police continue conducting traffic enforcement across Caledon, with recent inspections leading to multiple charges and unsafe commercial vehicles being taken off the road.
According to Caledon OPP, specially trained Commercial Motor Vehicle inspectors recently stopped two commercial vehicles with serious safety concerns.
In one case, a commercial vehicle was removed from service after officers found multiple major defects, including significant air brake line leaks. Police say the driver was charged with six offences, while the operating company faces three charges.
In a separate stop, another commercial vehicle was taken out of service after officers determined it was 1,500 pounds over its registered weight limit. Inspectors also discovered severely worn tires with more than two inches of internal metal cord exposed. The driver was charged with two offences and the operating company with four.
Police are reminding commercial drivers that compliance with safety regulations (including inspections, hours of service, cargo securement and dangerous goods transportation requirements) is essential to road safety.
The OPP says it remains committed to safer roads through enforcement and public education, and encourages motorists to report unsafe vehicles and dangerous driving behaviour.
