(CALEDON, ON) – A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Giovanni COSTA and two attempted murders of another individual in 2020 and 2021.
On Thursday, November 12th, 2020, at about 6:30 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a shooting at a business on Steeles Avenue West in Vaughan. One individual was taken to hospital.
On Monday, January 18th, at about 12:30 p.m., officers from the Caledon Detachment of the OPP responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Harvest Moon Drive in Bolton. Two people sustained gunshot wounds inside the home, including the victim from the Vaughan incident. The second victim, 65-year-old Giovanni COSTA of Bolton, was found deceased at the scene.
On Thursday, March 12th, 2026, Damion RYAN, 45 years old of Ottawa, was arrested and charged with First degree murder
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before in court on Monday, April 13th.
In addition, an Ontario-wide warrant has been issued for 27 year old Filmon FESSHAGHIRGIS of London. He has been charged with First degree murder.
The accused is known to frequent London and the GTA.
A Canada-wide warrant remains in effect for 48 year old Waheed BARAKZIYE of London. He has been charged with First degree murder,
He too is known to frequent London and the GTA.
The investigation remains ongoing by the Caledon OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch .
The Government of Ontario is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Giovanni COSTA.
