Georgian College has been awarded $1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to expand its Centre of Industrial Simulation and Prototyping, advancing the region’s leadership in Industry 5.0 innovation and applied research.
The funding is part of nearly $134 million announced nationally to support projects at 63 postsecondary institutions across Canada.
With this investment, Georgian will acquire advanced digital-simulation software and flexible manufacturing modules to better connect virtual modelling with real-world prototyping. The upgrades will help businesses move from concept to implementation more quickly, reducing risk, improving supply chains, and strengthening Ontario’s manufacturing sector.
The Centre, recently designated a Technology Access Centre by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, is expanding collaborations with the automotive, energy, and advanced-manufacturing industries. Georgian says these partnerships ensure research remains industry-driven and regionally relevant, while preparing students to develop the skills needed for a sustainable and human-focused manufacturing future.
“This investment recognizes Georgian’s leadership in applied research and its role in driving Ontario’s manufacturing future,” says Kevin Weaver, President and CEO of Georgian College. Dr. Mira Ray, Georgian’s Director of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, added that the funding will help companies adopt transformative technologies while offering students hands-on learning alongside industry partners.
