The Town of Oakville is receiving $13.2 million from the Ontario government after surpassing its 2024 housing target.
This funding comes through the Building Faster Fund, which rewards municipalities that achieve at least 80% of their provincially designated housing targets. Oakville broke ground on 3,679 new homes last year – 134% of its target.
The funding will help the town expand housing and community infrastructure while supporting the province’s broader plan to boost economic growth and keep workers employed.
“I want to thank Mayor Burton and Oakville Council for stepping up and taking bold action to get shovels in the ground faster,” say Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Mayor Rob Burton added that the funding will support much-needed infrastructure while maintaining Oakville’s livability.
Launched in 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program designed to accelerate homebuilding by rewarding municipalities that exceed targets. Oakville will also benefit from $3.2 million through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, part of a $35 million investment in Halton Region to support over 29,000 new homes.
The province says these investments, paired with new legislation like the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act 2025, are aimed at streamlining development, cutting costs, and ensuring communities can grow sustainably.
