Peel Regional council will decide the future of the of Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) at its regular meeting on Thursday.
PAMA, which houses many artifacts of historical significance and serves as the archive for Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon, is located across the street from Brampton city hall at 9 Wellington St. E.
The museum occupies the former site of the Peel County jail and courthouse opened in 1867 as well as Peel’s former registry office built in 1890. All the structures are protected under the Ontario Heritage Act and are of historical significance to the entire region. Peel Region council will consider a motion being brought forward by Brampton wards 1 and 5 Coun. Rowena Santos and seconded by Mississauga Ward Coun. 1 Stephen Dasko to transfer ownership and operation of the museum and archives to the City of Brampton.
