The Milton Public Library (MPL) is once again inviting young writers to showcase their creativity in its annual short story contest, Put Pen to Paper 2025.
Students in grades 6 – 12 who live in or attend school in Milton can submit original short stories of up to 1,500 words for a chance to win prizes.
Entries will be judged in two age groups:

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.
All submissions must follow the contest guidelines:
- stories must be typed, double-spaced, in size 12 Times New Roman font
- judged anonymously with no author names included on the pages.
- students must include their name, grade, story title, and word count in the email body when submitting
- one entry per student
- all work must be original (AI-generated content, including ChatGPT, is not permitted)
Submissions open on Friday, September 19th, with the contest running until October 12th as part of Culture Days. Stories can be submitted using the Junior or Senior entry forms, or by emailing entries to Corrina.mcgill@beinspired.ca before the October 12th deadline.
