The Ontario government has awarded the first two contracts to begin construction on Highway 413, marking a major step forward in its plan to ease gridlock across the Greater Toronto Area.
The new highway will connect York, Peel, and Halton regions and is expected to reduce travel times by up to 30 minutes.
Premier Doug Ford made the announcement in Caledon, where early work is underway to prepare for a new bridge over the future route.
The project will support over 6,000 jobs annually and add more than $1 billion to Ontario’s economy.
Highway 413 will stretch from the 401/407 interchange near Mississauga to Highway 400 in Vaughan, with links to Highways 410 and 427.
