Halton Hills is taking steps to preserve two of Acton’s most iconic sites: Prospect Park and Fairy Lake.
They’re officially recognizing them as heritage properties. At its upcoming July 7th meeting, Town Council will consider a Notice of Intention to Designate both features, aligning with the Town’s strategic plan goal of celebrating and protecting local history.
“Prospect Park and Fairy Lake are special cultural landscapes in our community,” says Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Created by our early residents for industry and for pleasure, these landscapes are historic.”
Councillor Clark Somerville, Chair of the Heritage Committee, echoed the importance of the designation.
“From the early days as a driver of industry to today as a recreational jewel, I’m so pleased that its narrative has been captured and will be shared with the broader community for years to come.”
The announcement also coincides with Historic Places Days, taking place from July 11th to July 20th. As part of the celebrations, residents are invited to free walking tours of Acton led by Scott Brooks of Vintage Acton and Mark Rowe of the Esquesing Historical Society. Tours will recognize Acton’s 200th anniversary and will support the Acton Foodshare, with food donations encouraged in lieu of tour fees.
Councillor Michael Albano, who also chairs the Acton Foodshare, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the donations “will have a meaningful and lasting impact on our community.”
