The Town of Halton Hills has successfully prosecuted an illegal truck terminal operation on Winston Churchill Boulevard, resulting in $69,000 in fines and a court-issued prohibition order mandating the property be restored to its proper condition.
The case involved One Value Limited and two of its directors, who were each convicted of one zoning violation related to illegal use, along with three site alteration charges – two for failing to obtain permits and one for ignoring a site alteration order.
The court also imposed a prohibition order under the Provincial Offences Act, which prohibits the continuation of the illegal activity and compels the restoration of the impacted land.
“Our valued farmland must not be destroyed by illegal truck terminals,” says Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor, who emphasized the town’s commitment to protecting its agricultural lands.
The Town continues to enforce By-law 2010-0050, which bans the storage or parking of commercial vehicles on residential and agricultural lands. According to Susie Spry, Manager of Enforcement Services, Halton Hills is currently dealing with over 50 illegal land use violations, most of them along Steeles Avenue.
Their message remains: illegal truck depots not only violate zoning laws but also endanger road safety, increase congestion, and damage prime farmland. Enforcement efforts will continue across the region to bring all properties into compliance.
