Burlington emergency crews responded to multiple grass fires along railway tracks on Monday afternoon, prompting road closures and a significant fire department presence in two areas of the city.
The first set of fires was reported near Upper Middle Road and Appleby Line, with Burlington Fire quickly arriving on scene. While no injuries were reported, authorities temporarily closed roads in the area to allow for fire suppression efforts.
A short time later, additional grass fires were reported near Tremaine Road and No. 2 Side Road, where fire crews also responded. Motorists were asked to avoid both areas due to smoke, road closures, and emergency activity.
Video of the fire was posted to the Burlington subreddit.
By early evening, officials confirmed the fires near Appleby Line and Upper Middle Road had been extinguished and all affected roads were reopened. Burlington Fire thanked residents and commuters for their cooperation and patience during the disruption.
As of the latest update, Tremaine Road remained closed between No. 1 and No. 2 Side Roads while fire crews continued to address lingering hot spots.
