Students at Craig Kielburger Secondary School (CKSS) in Milton are speaking out after learning their yearbook class will be cancelled for the 2025–2026 school year, effectively ending a cherished tradition.
For many Grade 12 students, including this year’s graduating class, the news comes as a major disappointment – especially for those who saw the project as a milestone memory of their high school years.
The yearbook has long served as a cultural archive of student life, capturing the spirit, accomplishments, and friendships of each graduating class. Without it, students say they’re losing more than just a book – they’re losing part of their identity and legacy at CKSS. The decision has sparked student-led petitions and conversations across the school community as they seek ways to preserve the tradition.
“We’re not just asking for a yearbook,” a student wrote to us. “We’re asking for the chance to create, collaborate, and celebrate our school experience – something every student deserves.”
This isn’t the first cut to impact CKSS students. We’re told the school’s robotics team was also recently disbanded due to budget constraints. Clubs like the music council and others are struggling to fundraise under tight financial conditions and increasingly restrictive fundraising policies. It’s known that library services have also seen cutbacks across the entire Halton District School Board (HDSB), contributing to concerns over how educational resources are being prioritized. While students and staff remain hopeful, they’re also calling for more transparent and student-focused budgeting from the board.
As mentioned, a petition has been started to reinstate the Yearbook Class for CKSS. You can sign the petition and donate here.
