The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) is embracing a meaningful and busy June, recognizing both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month across its schools and communities.
Throughout National Indigenous History Month, HCDSB is honouring the rich history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The month offers students and staff opportunities to deepen their understanding of Indigenous contributions to Canada and to recognize the strength and resilience of present-day Indigenous communities. A key date to remember is National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st, which celebrates Indigenous cultures and was first marked in 1996.
June is also Pride Month, and HCDSB schools are highlighting the importance of safe, inclusive learning environments where all students and staff feel welcomed, valued, and respected. Guided by Catholic values of dignity, compassion, and unconditional love, HCDSB is flying the Pride flag at all schools and the Catholic Education Centre starting Monday, June 2, as a visible symbol of solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
