The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officially unveiled its newest vessel, Marine 2, during a ceremony this week at Bronte Harbour.
This 38-foot-long boat will replace the previous Marine 2 and significantly boost the Service’s ability to patrol more than 800 square kilometres of Lake Ontario and surrounding waterways.
“We are exceptionally proud to commission Marine 2 as part of this year’s provincial Police Week campaign, themed Protecting Ontario,” says Chief Stephen Tanner, Halton Regional Police Service. “The addition of our new Marine 2 vessel will further bolster our operations and benefit the people of Halton from this day forward by enabling us to better respond to crime and ensure public safety and well-being, wherever the need takes us.”
The Canadian-made vessel, built by MetalCraft Marine Inc., cost $751,000 and features three powerful 350-horsepower Suzuki engines, dual propellers, thermal imaging, and depth sonar. Its advanced design allows it to reach speeds up to 100 km/h and operate in shallow or congested areas – ideal for quick emergency response and patrolling hard-to-reach zones.
As the HRPS gears up for National Safe Boating Week beginning Saturday, May 17th, Marine 2 will enhance enforcement on local waterways, helping deter impaired boating, monitor personal watercraft, and ensure navigational safety. Boaters are reminded to wear life jackets, never operate watercraft under the influence, and follow all navigational buoys when entering or leaving harbours.
