We now have more details on why residents were asked to avoid the area of Lakeshore Road and Belvedere Drive on Thursday.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) arrested two suspects and laid multiple charges after a firearms investigation.
On Thursday, August 29th, at 10:30 a.m., HRPS officers responded to a house on Belvedere Drive in Oakville after receiving a report of firearms seen within the residence. One female suspect was arrested at the beginning of the investigation and a criminal code search warrant was executed, resulting in the arrest of a second suspect, this time a male, within the residence. Two firearms (rifles) and an electric stun gun were located along with five paint and pellet guns, which were manufactured to resemble automatic rifles, hand guns, and a shot gun.
As a result of the investigation, 42-year-old Traci Simioni of Oakville and 49-year-old Hernan Cuello Mazzillo of no fixed address have been jointly charged with the following:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (2 Counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
Both Simioni and Cuello Mazzillo were released on an undertaking with a future court date in Milton.
The Halton Police thanked the residents in the area for their patience and co-operation as the investigation unfolded.
