Daily WTF – Eat a rock a day, put glue on your pizza: how Google’s AI is losing touch with reality
Fairly recently, Google ventured into the wild, wild west that is Artificial Intelligence. Their new AI has seen some hiccups in recent weeks, as people have reported some pretty interesting responses. You can ask the Google AI questions, and like the search engine itself, the AI will scour the internet looking for the right answer. Thing is, not everything you read online is factual (shocking, I know) and so some of these answers have been incredibly wrong. That includes eating a rock a day to keep the doctor away, and adding glue to your pizza for additional texture and flavour. Apparently, the $500 million investment by Google is having a hard time differentiating legitimate articles with fake ones done by parody websites like The Onion. Even the robots are falling for fake news, which in the long run, might be a net positive for humans.

Lizzo reveals how she really feels about that ‘South Park’ obesity episode
For some celebrities, you know you’ve made it when you’re used as an answer on Jeopardy, and others know they’ve made it when they’re depicted on South Park. The long running adult cartoon show aired an episode over the week that covered Ozempic, which is the prescription injectable that is being used for weightloss. The episode showed Eric Cartman, the famously overweight character lose all of his weight after going on Ozempic. Eventually, a character introduces a fictional drug that is cheaper than Ozempic and makes you comfortable with your weight, which the show named after singer Lizzo. Now, Lizzo has responded to being namedropped on South Park. In a video posted to social media, she mentioned that she can’t believe she’s made such a difference for body positivity that this long running show is talking about her. She’s a fan! Good for her.

A mom of three is celebrating her graduation at Yale! Vanessa Landegger is a mom of three who decided to go back to school. She originally went to school back in 2000 to become a nurse, but had to drop out after a few weeks to take care of her son. After her kids grew up, she decided to give it another shot. Her son was going to go to Yale, and so she decided to give it a shot. They eventually became classmates, and now she’s getting her nursing degree 24 years after first giving it a shot… And that is some good news!
How to keep insects out of your house, according to an entomologist and other experts
It’s that time of the year… The creepy crawlies are out and about, and they look at your home as warm, safe territory. If you’re looking to keep bugs out this summer, experts have some advice. Orkin Canada recommends not killing any insects in your home. They say that killing bugs inside actually attracts more as they’re looking for the source of food that you just created. Instead, they recommend you pick, sweep or vacuum up all insects and escort them outside. If you have a stink bug, they recommend not using a vacuum on it as it will secrete their smell, and you don’t want that. You should also seal up all entry points, and make sure windows, screens, and doors are closed at all times. Lastly, Orkin says bugs are attracted to light, so they recommend using dimmers or sensors for lighting indoors. Have you had any insect issues this year? How are you dealing with them? Let me know!
Walking backwards might ‘look a little weird,’ but it could be just the exercise you need
If you’re having an issue with balance, experts say you should try walking backwards! As weird as that sounds, they say it works. Research has found that walking backwards can improve balance (preventing falls), while also having less impact on joints, exercising different muscles, increasing flexibility, and alleviating back pain! It’s actually recommended for older adults to give the exercise a try. They say start slow on a treadmill and use the handrails when needed. Even 20 seconds is a good enough start! If you’re giving it a try outdoors, make sure you bring someone with you who can watch for obstacles. Last thing you need while improving your balance is to fall over… Seems kind of counterproductive if you ask me.
