With the eclipse officially less than a week away, I wanna know, do you have any plans?
It’s a day off for the kids, will you take the day off?
Kingston is expecting 500,000 people; will you travel to see the totality?
Is it just another day for you?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – The history behind Milton’s Chilver Heights and Mortimer Crescent
Each week, Milton Historical Society President John Challinor details the origins of local street names. We covered one street connected to very a well-known Milton family, and another named after a former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario! We’ll have two more next week.
Daily WTF – Police confuse security camera cat photo for mountain lion
Not everything you see on your ring camera is what you think it is. Police in San Francisco were notified of a potential mountain lion in the area. Security footage showed the big cat walking along a fence. Officers investigated the area, hoping to catch the mountain lion before the mountain lion caught something to eat. They couldn’t find it, so they put out a warning to residents on social media. That post was updated after the cops found the big cat in question, and it was just that: a big cat. Maybe it’s time for Garfield to go on a diet… Gotta lay of the lasagna…
Daily Did You Know – Milton Public Library hosting comedy author event this weekend
If you’re looking to laugh while you learn something, head to the Milton Public Library this weekend! They’re hosting comedian Michael McCreary for an author event. He’ll discuss his new book Funny, You Don’t Look Autistic. The free, hour-long event will start at 4pm on Sunday at the Sherwood branch. Signed copies of the book will be available after for purchase.
A storm is a-brewin’
Get ready for a gross few days. Rain and snow are in the forecast starting Tuesday and running potentially until Friday. It’s going to get chilly and wet, with some early spring snow possible this week. It’s a good reminder to keep your winter coat ready whenever you need it, and to also keep an umbrella on-hand for emergencies. Good news: this weekend looks fairly nice, with sun being forecast and highs of eight and 11 degrees… Just gotta get there first…
New Yorkers book private jets to guarantee seeing solar eclipse from above the clouds
It’s really hard to plan a morning show for the day after April Fools, because you just never know what is real. Apparently, this one is real! Rich New Yorkers are worried about missing the eclipse due to it being overcast or cloudy, so they’ve decided to tackle the issue head on. A number of people are booking private jets so that they can be above the clouds during the solar eclipse on Monday. In fact, according to the Erie Times, Erie is expecting up to 50 private planes to land in their area around the solar eclipse. If the weather is too cloudy, these planes will look elsewhere to see the rare celestial event. If the whole path of totality is cloudy, these planes will remain above the clouds. Rich people… They live different lives!
Martin Short to Be Inaugurated as Mayor of Funner, California
It’s like news companies were looking to release fake-sounding true stories on April 1st or something. A reserve in California changed its name to Funner several years ago. They’re home to a massive resort, and it’s their goal to find the most fun thing to do at all times. That also goes hand in hand with their mayoral candidates, as they routinely name celebrities as their mayor. Jane Lynch was the incumbent mayor for Funner, California. She will now be replaced by her Only Murders in the Building co-star (and proud Canadian) Martin Short. Past mayors include comedian Rob Riggle and actor David Hasselhoff. The role comes with zero power, but the celebrities reportedly appear in very obnoxious commercials throughout the one-year term. Short’s inauguration as Funner mayor is expected for next month, and knowing him, will be as flamboyant and over-the-top as possible.
Taco Bell and Pizza Hut Are Going ‘AI-First,’ Yum’s New Tech Chief Says
Yet another article I was very skeptical about while reading on April Fools Day. Yum Brands has announced that they will dip their toes into artificial intelligence! What does that mean? Well, their restaurants, including Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, will soon add automation into their behind-the-scenes production. You won’t have robots making your Crunchwrap Supremes, but the company will have AI helping with its internal system. Apparently they have an app that is purely used by managers, and this app will now have AI that will help answer questions these managers might have. It’s kind of like having Google purely for how to run a Taco Bell location, which is pretty neat! That said, I’m sure Andy the Android makes a mean Pizza Hut P’Zone…
Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ holds 2024 single-day streaming record for an album on Spotify
It seems Beyoncé has another massive hit on her hands. She released her country album, Cowboy Carter, last week. People were definitely waiting for this thing, and they had a lot of time on their hands over the holiday long weekend, as Cowboy Carter now holds the single-day streaming record for an album on Spotify. Her big single from the album, Texas Hold ‘Em, also debuted at number one on the Hot Country charts, making Beyoncé the first woman and first Black woman to have topped both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since the lists began in 1958. Pretty good start to 2024 for Beyoncé, that’s for sure.
The best jokes and pranks for April Fools 2024
Brands and companies tend to go over the top on April Fools Day, and this year was no different. Whether it’s Haagen-Dazs announcing their newest haggis flavoured ice cream ‘Haggis-Dazs’, or Krispy Kreme debuting their brand new glazed pizza, there was plenty to catch your attention. Nintendo announced a fake reality based video game system, allowing you to play Mario Kart in real life if you wanted. Paint company Dulux were proud to share their scratch-and-sniff paint collection, sure to be every three-year-olds favourite thing had it been real. Did you have a favourite prank yesterday? What was it? Let me know!
Kyle, Texas, seeks visitors named Kyle for world record attempt
Kyle, Texas will once again be the location for the official “Gathering of the Kyles.” Last year, the city was able to gather 1,490 people named Kyle to the event. This fell short of the world record the largest gathering of people with the same first name, which stands at 2,325 people named Ivan at a 2017 event in Europe. If your name is Kyle, you’re being summoned to Kyle, Texas for May 18th. If there was ever a birthright for Kyles, it is to attend this event. Have fun, Kyle.
