A pair of arrests have been made following a lengthy drug investigation in and around the Halton region.
On Monday, April 24th, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) stopped and arrested a man in his vehicle in Mississauga. Investigators then executed search warrants on his vehicle, a pair of residences and a storage locker associated with the accused. As a result of the search warrants, the following items were seized:
- Two restricted handguns (both with tampered serial numbers)
- Four handgun magazines
- 99 rounds of ammunition
- Brass knuckles
- Approximately 7.7 ounces of cocaine
- Drug trafficking indicia (drug packaging, digital scale, cutting agents)
- Nearly $10,000 in CAN currency
Police have charged 31-year-old Julian Welsh of Mississauga with the following:
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Two counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Two Counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (Two counts)
- Breach of Firearms Regulation (Two Counts)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition (Two Counts)
- Firearm: Tampering with Serial Number (Two counts)
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance – Cocaine (Two counts)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (brass knuckles)
As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Natasha Furtado of Toronto was also arrested and has been charged with the following offences:
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Two counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Two Counts)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (Two counts)
- Breach of Firearms Regulation (Two Counts)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition (Two Counts)
- Firearm: Tampering with Serial Number (Two counts)
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
