The Town of Orangeville has declared a significant weather event as of 6 a.m. on Saturday March 4, in response to the winter storm that happened overnight. The declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives until the significant weather event has ended.
The winter operations team will continue to work, but due to the severity of the storm, it may take longer to plow roads, sidewalks, and subdivisions. The team is currently focused on main roads, and residents are unlikely to see residential roads plowed again until later tonight or tomorrow.
Residents are asked to stay off the roads and sidewalks. If they must go out, they are advised to be cautious, drive slowly, and according to weather conditions. The town is urging residents to leave their phone lines open for emergencies and to contact the appropriate authorities in case of emergency situations.
Updates about when roads will be plowed are not an emergency. For concerns regarding flooded basements, broken water mains, blocked sewer drains, concerns with animals, traffic lights out/broken, and other issues requiring immediate attention, residents should contact the Town of Orangeville at 519-941-0440 (press 3 if calling after-hours). For medical emergencies, fires, criminal activity, and other concerns that require a first responder, residents should call 911. For downed power lines, power outages or issues with electrical equipment, residents should call Orangeville Hydro at 519-942-8000.
The winter storm is expected to last throughout the day, and residents are reminded to be patient and courteous to snow crews as they work tirelessly to keep roads and sidewalks safe for residents to travel on. Updates will be posted regularly on the response at Orangeville.ca/Snow.
