The Milton Menace managed to slay Goliath on Sunday, but it came after a disappointing loss on Friday night.
Let’s start with Friday’s game with the Trenton Golden Hawks at the Milton Memorial Arena. Both teams were comparable heading into the matchup, with the Menace (at the time) sitting in fourth place in Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) North/West Conference, and the Golden Hawks also being fourth in OJHL South/East Conference.
The game didn’t start off great for Milton, with Trenton opening the scoring ten minutes into the first period and scoring a shorthanded goal. It was 1-0 Golden Hawks after 20-minutes of action.
Trenton then scored a minute into the second period to take an early 2-0 lead. Milton took most of the period to get that one back, with Carson Burlington getting the Menace on the board at 15:45. His goal was assisted by Myles Perry and Jared Coccimiglio. Aidan Hughes then tied the game two minutes later, with help from Lucas Buzziol and Tristan Tremble. Just before intermission, Trenton would score the go ahead goal to make 3-2 Golden Hawks after two periods.
The third period would be mostly uneventful as Trenton would be Milton 3-2.
In net for Milton was Forbes Anderson. He had a relatively light night, stopping just 19 of 22 shots. That gives him an .863% save percentage on the night.
The Menace then went north to take on the juggernaut that are the Collingwood Blues.
Heading into Sunday’s game, the Blues had lost just eight regulation games this season. They would open the scoring with an unassisted goal just ten minutes into the first period. It was 1-0 Blues after one period.
Milton quickly got that goal back in the second period, with Thomas Gordon scoring at the 3:51 mark. It was assisted by Jared Coccimiglio and Bradley Banach. The Menace then jumped out to a 2-1 lead with Justin O’Donnell scoring four minutes later. His goal was assisted by Cory Liu and Coccimiglio. Milton led 2-1 after two periods.
Owen Kindree continued the scoring, with his third period goal at the 1:22 mark. The 3-1 goal was assisted by Coccimiglio and Connor Driscoll. The Blues would get one back, but it was not enough, as the Menace would beat the Blues 3-2.
Will Goumas was the Menace netminder on Sunday afternoon. He stopped 25 of 27 shots for a .925% save percentage.
Next up for the Menace is a game in Stouffville against the Spirit on Thursday, February 23rd. Puck-drop at the Stouffville Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
Their next home game will be on Sunday, February 26th against the Haliburton County Huskies. Game-time for that one is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Milton Memorial Arena. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
The final regular season game for the Menace will be on Saturday, March 4th against the Collingwood Blues.
