Orangeville resident Wayne White has been familiar with the Ritchie family long before sons Nick and Brett were ever born, let alone NHL superstars.
He stopped by our studios this week to share some stories about Orangeville’s first family of Hockey.
“When I was a new teacher, [my first assignment] was out in Grand Valley.” Wayne said, as he sipped on a refillable mug from Tim Hortons.
“And I had this kid who was a lot of trouble, always being sent to the Principals office.” He continued. “It wasn’t until years later that [my wife] Wanda and I were at a Christmas party, and in walks Paul and Tammy Ritchie. [Paul] said ‘I remember you,’ and I go, ‘Yeah, I remember you too!'”
It turns out the troublemaker was none other than Paul Ritchie, Dad to Nick and Brett.
Wayne has been cheering on the Ritchie brothers ever since, and has amassed an impressive Ritchie jersey collection – including a game-worn Anaheim Ducks jersey signed by Nick Ritchie himself.
