In a recent statement, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the Province will observe September 19 as a Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II, rather than a provincial holiday.
“This will give all Ontarians an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable life of Queen Elizabeth II and her unrelenting commitment to service and duty,” reads the statement.
The news comes just hours after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday, September 19th, (which is the day of the Queen’s state funeral in London), as a federal holiday.
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador also said they would observe the national day of mourning by closing schools and government offices.
FM101 Orangeville will be observing a moment of silence at 1:00 pm that day.
