The Orangeville Public Library has teamed up with the University of Waterloo’s ESQ outreach program and the Canadian Space Agency, to give local elementary students an opportunity to learn space-themed science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Children in grades 1 to 8, will engage in various STEM topics such as circuity, coding, physics, and astronomy through interactive videos and hands-on activities.
Participants will uncover the secrets of the universe and step into the boots of a NASA engineer to design and build their own space systems, learn the components of a spacesuit, clean up simulated space debris, code their own lunar lander, and more.
There are three clubs based on grade level.
Junior STEM Club (grades 1 – 3): Feb. 7th, Mar. 7th, Apr. 4th, May 3rd
Intermediate STEM Club (grades 4 – 6): Feb.14th, Mar. 21st, Apr. 11th, May 4th
Senior STEM Club (grade 7 – 8): Feb. 28th, Mar. 28th, Apr. 18th, May 5th
Parents can sign up for one or all four sessions.
Some weeks will have a take-home activity kit, for pick-up from the Mill Street library in advance, to complete fun experiments at home.
