The mother of a three-year-old boy who died after he was swept into the Grand River in 2018 has pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.
Michelle Hanson was charged after her son Kaden Young was pulled out of her arms and drowned after she drove her minivan around a road closed sign and ended up in the Grand River near Orangeville.
Hanson entered a guilty plea during a virtual appearance today (nov23), where court heard that she took Kaden out for a drive because he was having trouble sleeping.
An agreed statement of facts said alcohol and therapeutic amounts of oxycodone were found in Hanson’s blood, but the Crown said a toxicologist was unable to provide evidence of impairment.
