Dufferin-Caledon MP Kyle Seeback like many, was taken aback when Erin O’Toole won the Conservative Party leadership race.
Unlike his fellow candidate, Peter MacKay, whose pedigree and centered platform made him the favourite during the leadership race, O’Toole must make himself a recognizable name to win over Canadians, as exemplified in his first speech as Conservative leader when he took the podium and said “To the millions of Canadians that I’m meeting tonight for the first time: Good morning. I’m Erin O’Toole, you’re going to be seeing and hearing a lot from me in the coming weeks and months.”
Seeback addresses the comparison between the two candidates and says “We like to talk about how there’s such big differences between Conservative candidates, but other than perhaps Derek Sloan, I think all the candidates were reasonably close together on policy issues.”
And although Seeback’s pick didn’t win the race, the local MP says O’Toole has what it takes to unify the party’s various factions.
