David Merner recently made a pit stop in Dufferin County as part of his cross country Green Party leadership tour.
Merner says what pleasantly struck him was the local lush natural landscape.
Merner says it’s for this reason, he sees a lot of potential for Green traction even though Dufferin-Caledon is traditionally a blue riding.
According to Merner, one plan peddled by the Greens is to build a country-wide electrical grid, powered by sustainable energy.
Merner is a recognizable figure in his native Vancouver Island, where he spent three decades with the federal Liberal party but jumped ship in 2015 to join the Greens.
He also spoke to myFM News about his decision to go from the Grits to the Greens.
Merner is one of nine candidates vying for the top Green spot.
The party will select its leader in an election scheduled for October 4th.
