Katharine Kanters, a student at Orangeville District Secondary School, will travel to Europe this spring to study Canada’s involvement in the First World War.
The Amaranth native is one of 20 students named as a recipient of the 2020 Vimy Pilgrimage Award, sponsored by Scotiabank.
The award recognizes the actions of young people who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to volunteer work through positive contributions, notable deeds, or bravery that benefits their peers, school, community, province, or country.
From April 2-10, Kanters and 19 other students from across Canada, will participate in a fully funded educational program in Belgium and France. They will study Canada’s involvement in the First World War and visit important sites including museums, cemeteries, and historic battlefields.
Students will also participate in the Vimy Day commemoration ceremony at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.
