Orangeville wants to keep the Jean Hamlyn Day Care Centre open should the County of Dufferin choose to close the facility.
Council made the announcement coming out of a closed session on Monday (Dec. 9).
It has agreed to lease the building on McCarthy Street to another daycare provider for five years if the county-owned facility is closed.
Last month, a county staff report recommended Jean Hamlyn be closed since it continues to run at a deficit and is need of more than $300,000 in capital repairs. The county is also expected to lose $325,000 in provincial funding in the coming years.
A special community services meeting to discuss the daycare’s future is scheduled for Wednesday.
