If you’re in the market for a new water softener you may want to hold off until after Orangeville council approves its 2020 budget.
Council will debate adding a water softener rebate program when budget talks start later this month.
According to town staff, the program would have multiple benefits for residents, the municipality and the environment.
With an uptake of 100 rebates per year, the program would result in a reduction of as much as 21,000 m3 of residential water consumption for each year it is implemented.
It would also reduce the amount of salt discharged into the Credit River and support the town’s efforts to comply with a number of source water protection policies.
According to staff, eligible homeowners would get a $250 rebate.
