Good for taxpayers and good for the environment.
That’s what Melancthon mayor, Darren White said about the province’s recent move to force manufacturers to pay for the Blue Box Program instead of taxpayers.
White, who also sits on the Dufferin County Infrastructure and Environmental Services Committee says a lot of waste ends up in the landfill since the public isn’t always up to speed on what is recyclable in their region.
By forcing producers to pay, White says these companies will be incentivized to create recyclable material.
Ontario says starting in 2023, the first group of municipalities and First Nations will see producers brunting the cost for the Blue Box Program and by 2025, the transition will be completed province-wide.
