Police in Shelburne are asking parents and kids to be vigilant in local parks after amphetamine-based drugs were discovered in a public parking lot and kids park on Thursday morning (July 25).
A small package of the drugs were first found in a public parking. A few hours later, several additional small packages were located in the playground area of Greenwood Park.
According to police, field tests of the contents indicate that the substance is an amphetamine-based drug which can be very dangerous.
The packages are the size of a loonie in clear saran wrapped bundles with a white, somewhat crystalized substance inside
“If any similar packages are located by anyone they should not touch them,” says Sergeant Paul Neumann.
Police ask that you call 911 immediately if you find one of these packages.
“We are encouraging adults to monitor their children when in public areas, and speak with their children not to touch anything that is found on the ground or on park play equipment. Please check all areas before your children are allowed to play freely,” adds Neumann.
Police and public works are actively checking all parks, schools and public areas.
Video surveillance obtained by police shows that the package left in the public parking lot occurred overnight.
A vehicle and a person were captured on the video.
The suspect is described as a male, average build, very short dark hair, wearing a red t-shirt with some graphics on the front, and dark shorts that reach below the knees. The vehicle is a red mid-size SUV possibly a Dodge Journey.
Police would like to speak to this person. If anyone can help police identify the man, they are asked to call Shelburne Police.
