A summer closure of Airport Road cost some Caledon East businesses 40 to 80 per cent of their sales and weeks after the reopening, many say things are still far from normal.
The stretch from Emma Street to Hilltop Drive — which was closed to through traffic mid July — reopened Sept. 4, three days ahead of schedule. Peel Region said the early completion was the result of extended working hours on weekdays and weekends, as well as construction efficiencies identified throughout the project.
For the businesses that are located on that section of Airport Road, the news was welcome. However, with narrow lanes, localized lane reductions and traffic light delays still in place for ongoing work, many say normal is still a long way off.
