Pet waste can harm our drinking water. The waste carries bacteria, viruses, parasites and more that can pollute water sources.
Because we use groundwater for drinking, the water we rely on comes from rain and melted snow. That water soaks into the ground and moves through layers of soil and rock until it reaches something called an aquifer. If pet waste is left on the ground, rain can wash harmful bacteria into the ground along with it.
Help keep our water safe by picking up after your pets! It’s a simple step for cleaner, safer water for everyone.
