Headwaters Health Care Centre is officially moving into the detailed design stage for its $20-million emergency department expansion at Headwaters Hospital in Orangeville. The expansion aims to address the massive 60 per cent surge in patients.
CEO Kim Delahunt says this phase will finalize the blueprints for an additional 3,500 square feet of emergency department space. She noted that the current footprint of 9,000 square feet is “not suitable for the large increase” in patient volumes at Headwaters and the projected growth.
The facility is now 27 years old and was originally built for 23,000 annual visits. It currently receives more than 37,000 — and that number is projected to climb to 50,000 within the next 10 years.
