Dufferin OPP would like to remind motorists of proper snowplow etiquette and when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1. Calling 9-1-1 because a snowplow will not pull over to allow vehicles to pass is not an emergency.
On January 4th just after 11:00 a.m., Dufferin OPP were dispatched to the area of Highway 10 in Melancthon following reports that a snowplow was not pulling over to allow vehicles to pass. At the time, weather conditions included whiteout conditions due to blowing snow, making travel hazardous.
Snowplow operators are working to keep roads safe and passable during severe winter weather and may not be able to pull over safely or allow vehicles to pass.
Motorists are reminded that we all have important places to be and families to return home to at the end of the day. Patience and safe driving help ensure everyone arrives home safely.
Motorists are reminded that 9-1-1 is for emergencies only.
