The Ontario Provincial Police and Canada Border Services Agency have announced the arrest of 20 individuals along with the recovery more than 300 stolen vehicles with a value of approximately $25 million.
Of those arrested, nine were held for bail, six are still in custody, and three have been released with conditions. Police said one individual is accused of failing to comply with a probation order while another is accused of failing to comply with a release order for auto theft or driving-related offences.
And police say the investigation, dubbed Project Chickadee, is far from over.
The individuals facing charges range from those accused of auto thefts to owners of freight-forwarding companies and their drivers.
Police say the arrested individuals include a 53-year-old male from Bolton. They face 134 criminal charges.
