Starting January 1, 2026, Ontario municipalities will transition responsibility for residential recycling to Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization. Despite this change in service provider, residents will continue using their existing blue recycling bins, and their collection day will remain unchanged.
This provincial mandate for recycling was finalized in 2021, as part of the Ontario’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model. EPR requires the packaging and paper producers to pay for and manage recycling, including curbside collection. Circular Materials will run the program for producers.
