Two Caledon men have been sentenced to house arrest after being found guilty of operating a fraudulent truck driver training ring that charged students around $4,500 for bogus training, along with additional fees for an interpreter.
Government lawyers argued the men deserved jail for the “large-scale” fraud, recommending four years for the offences they were convicted of, including fraud over $5,000 and one-year consecutive for uttering forged documents.
Justice Pierre Roger ultimately sided with the defence, which argued the wrongdoing was less severe, particularly given that students did receive some training and follow-up support.
