As thousands of students returned to classrooms earlier this month, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) launched its 18th annual Project Safe Start campaign.
Between September 2nd and 12th, officers laid 2,252 charges and issued 637 warnings across the region. The most common offences included disobeying stop signs and speeding, both major concerns in school and community safety zones.
“I’m tremendously thankful for our community partners, media, and members of the Halton region for continuing to advocate traffic safety to ensure Halton is a safe place to work, live, play, and learn,” says Chief Stephen Tanner of the HRPS.
While the campaign has ended, police emphasize that road safety is a year-round, shared responsibility. Drivers are urged to stay alert, follow the rules of the road, and drive sober to keep students and residents safe.
Residents can report driving violations or request enforcement in specific areas here. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
