The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), along with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ministry of Transportation (MTO), conducted a three-day road safety blitz this week.
From Tuesday, August 19th to Thursday, August 21st, inspections were held in a different community across Halton, with certified CMV inspectors from HRPS, MTO, and OPP checking trucks for safety and compliance.
The results were significant:
- 82 CMV level 1 inspections
- 36 CMV’s placed out of service (44% Out of Service)
- 6 sets of licence plates seized
- 160 Provincial Offence Notices issued
- 2 written warnings issued
- 2 court summonses issued
“These results speak for themselves in terms of both the need and effectiveness of these campaigns to identify and remove unsafe or unfit commercial motor vehicles from our roadways,” says Staff Sergeant Ryan Smith; Traffic Services Unit. “We will continue these similar efforts to keep our roads as safe as possible.”
Next, the HRPS CMV Team will take part in Brake Safety Week, a North America-wide initiative running from Sunday, August 24th to Saturday, August 30th. During this campaign, inspectors will focus specifically on brake systems and components, a leading factor in truck safety.
Police are reminding all commercial drivers and operators to conduct proper daily pre-trip inspections so that defects are caught and repaired before vehicles hit the road.
