Orangeville Council unanimously approved a 2-year pilot program to use speed cameras (ASE) to catch and deter speeding in residential areas.
The program will start soon, with cameras being placed at Spencer Avenue and Alder Street.
The cameras can be moved later to other high-risk areas.
Mayor Lisa Post said in a Facebook post, Speeding is the #1 complaint from residents.
Council wants to improve road safety, especially in areas where kids and families walk, play, and go to school.
The goal is to target serious speeders, not minor infractions.
This is a test program to make streets safer. If it doesn’t work after 2 years, it will be stopped.
The focus is safety—not revenue.
