Conservation Halton is receiving funding from the province for a special program involving local seniors.
On Monday, August 11th, Milton MPP Zee Hamid was at Crawford Lake Conservation Area to announce a $25,000 investment into Conservation Halton’s Nature Stewards program.
Launched in 2024, Nature Stewards has already served more than 600 seniors across Halton, connecting residents of long-term care homes and retirement communities with the outdoors through native garden planting, nature-based workshops, and guided walks.
“At Conservation Halton, we have a track record of engaging communities in nature-based programs and providing outdoor education to youth and children for over six decades,” says Chandra Sharma, President and CEO of Conservation Halton. “Thanks to our partners, we are proud to run programs like Nature Stewards, which help reduce social isolation and promote physical wellness, mental stimulation, and community connection for seniors through meaningful nature-based activities and programming. As demand on conservation areas continues to grow, so does our role in providing programming that connects people to nature. This is an example of our commitment to innovating program offerings for our diverse communities, reflecting people’s needs and, where possible, meeting them where they are.”
The funding will help Conservation Halton expand Nature Stewards in 2025 and 2026, reaching even more seniors and enhancing community well-being.
