Bears have recently been seen in Erin and nearby Caledon.
While most bear encounters are not aggressive and attacks are rare, it’s important to know how to stay safe.
If you see a bear:
Stay calm and don’t run.
Back away slowly while keeping the bear in sight.
Make yourself appear larger by raising your arms and speaking in a firm voice.
Keep pets on a leash and children close.
Never approach, feed, or try to photograph a bear up close.
If a bear poses an immediate threat to your safety or others:
Call 911 or contact the OPP right away.
For non-emergency sightings, report the bear to the Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327.
