The Milton Public Library (MPL) is calling on community members to help grow its Medicine Learning Garden at their Beaty Branch.
This is a space rooted in Indigenous knowledge and environmental stewardship, created in partnership with Indigenous organizations Miinikaan and Grandmother’s Voice, and funded by the Government of Canada. The garden celebrates the connections between land, plants, people, and culture. Open from May to October, it features native, pollinator-friendly plants, beehives, educational story walks, and teachings from Turtle Island.
To support the garden’s continued growth, the library is now accepting donations of specific plants only. Requested items include:
- Lavender – 1 gallon pots
- Echinacea – 1 gallon pots
- White Common Yarrow – 1 gallon pots
- Blue Chip Juniper – shrub
- Swamp Milkweed – 1 gallon pot
- Blue Vervain – 1 gallon pots
- White Turtle Head – 1 gallon pots
- Wild Geranium – 1 gallon pots
- Sweet Oxeye Daisy – 1 gallon pots
- Blazing Star (Liatris) – 1 gallon pots
- Burning Bush – shrub (regular, not dwarf)
- Ninebark – shrub
Donations can be brought to the Beaty Branch’s customer service desk on Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th, as well as Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th during open hours.
By contributing time or plants, you’ll be helping preserve a living, growing tribute to Indigenous teachings and biodiversity right in the heart of Milton.
