Orangeville Council Chambers (2018)
Local residents are being encouraged to attend an upcoming Council meeting to have their say on a proposed townhouse development at 11A York Street, located on the south side of York Street, between John Street and Bythia Street in Orangeville.
The Town has received an application requesting amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to allow for the construction of 12 townhouse units on the large property, which currently includes a single detached bungalow.
If approved, the changes would re-designate the property from “Low Density Residential” to “Low Density Multiple” and re-zone it from an R2 to an R5 Zone. These modifications are needed to accommodate the proposed higher-density residential use.
Town staff have prepared a detailed report analyzing the application and offering a recommendation, but input from the public is a vital part of the decision-making process.
We’ve heard from residents that feel this project is excessive and destructive to the surrounding nature and several undesignated historical buildings in the area. A petition against the project was passed around recently, reaching north of 1600 signatures.
Local voices will help shape the future of the neighbourhood.
Residents are invited to attend the Council meeting at 87 Broadway in Orangeville, wehre they can share their opinions, and ensure their concerns and perspectives are heard. It’ll take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9th.
