The Milton Public Library (MPL) is inviting families to step into a timeless Indigenous story with its latest StoryWalk installation at their Beaty branch Garden.
From Saturday, May 10th to Monday, June 23rd, visitors can enjoy The Animal People Choose a Leader, written by beloved Ojibway author Richard Wagamese and illustrated by Anishinaabe artist Bridget George.
Set in a mythical “Long Ago Time,” the story follows a gathering of animals – each with unique strengths – as they decide who among them is best suited to lead. While strong and swift creatures like Horse, Cougar, and Buffalo boast their abilities, an unexpected competitor emerges: Waabooz, a small and humble rabbit who surprises everyone.
This engaging outdoor reading experience is perfect for early years, school-age, and middle-grade children, offering a chance to explore themes of humility, courage, and leadership through a cultural lens.
Families can enjoy the story at their own pace in the Beaty Garden, all while connecting with nature and storytelling.
Find the Beaty branch at 945 Fourth Line in Milton.
