The Town of Milton says the Supreme Court of Canada has declined to hear their and other Halton municipalities’ appeal regarding the federally approved CN Intermodal Hub.
While the decision effectively ends the legal challenge at the country’s highest court, local leaders remain concerned about the project’s potential impacts on health, the environment, and the local economy. Mayor Gord Krantz expressed disappointment in his statement this morning.
“This is the wrong project in the wrong location.”
Despite the setback, Milton officials emphasized that federal approval does not exempt CN from complying with provincial and municipal planning laws. The Town says it will continue exploring legal avenues to ensure those regulations are respected. In addition, Mayor Krantz urged Prime Minister Mark Carney and newly elected Halton MPs to re-examine the project given evolving economic conditions and public health concerns.
He also thanked Halton Region, neighboring municipalities, and community advocacy groups like Milton Says No and RAIL for their continued support.
