Two Georgetown men are facing charges after reporting a fake carjacking incident.
On Thursday, January 9th, just after 11:30 p.m., Caledon OPP officers responded to an alleged carjacking on Mayfield Road, east of Mississauga Road, in Caledon.
After an investigation, the officers found the report to be false.
A 28-year-old of Georgetown was charged with:
- Public Mischief
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Fraud over $5,000
A 22-year-old, also of Georgetown, was charged with:
- Public Mischief
- Obstruct Peace Officer
Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on March 6th, to answer to the charges.
The investigation is ongoing by the Caledon Detachment Major Crime Unit. Anyone with information that might assist is asked to contact the Caledon OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
