Orkin Canada warning residents of pests as the temperatures start to drop.
Summer is officially over, and with winter coming over the horizon, pests will be seeking warm shelter. This makes your vacation property a prime target, says Orkin.
They’ve provided a lists of tips for cottage owners to follow as they close up for the season:
- Eliminate water sources: Turn off the water supply to the property and clean gutters to avoid leaks and moisture damage that can attract pests.
- Protect your mattresses: Strip bedding and stand mattresses upright to prevent rodents and pests from nesting.
- Check doors and windows: Regularly replace screens, door sweeps, and weather stripping to block pests from entering.
- Remove food items: Dispose of leftover food to avoid attracting hungry pests during the winter months.
- Trim plants: Keep space between the exterior of your cottage and trees and shrubs to minimize pest hiding spots and entry points.
