Orangeville Council has voted to ban kite fighting after environmental concerns arose from an event last summer.
The activity, which involves cutting other kites’ strings often coated with hazardous materials, left debris across town and into Island Lake.
Despite previous efforts to address the issue through public education, the council opted for a bylaw prohibiting kite fighting to protect the local environment.
Similar bans have been enacted in nearby municipalities such as Mono, Oakville, Toronto, and Mississauga.
